Child Find Under federal and state law (34 CFR 300.220, 300.121), the Bering Strait School District conducts annual "Child Find" efforts to locate, identify, and evaluate all children (ages 3–21) with suspected disabilities or giftedness within its jurisdiction. Eligible students are entitled to a free and appropriate public education with tailored instruction, regardless of severity. Confidentiality: Student records are strictly protected. Written consent is required before sharing identifiable information with anyone outside authorized school or education department personnel. Section 504 Protections: Prohibits discrimination under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 for individuals with mental or physical impairments that substantially limit major life activities (e.g., learning, walking, seeing, breathing), those with a history of such impairments, or those perceived as having them.
